October 24, Lepel /Own. inf./. People with disabilities… How much they need our daily support, care, and attention! Despite their physical limitations, these people very much want to find themselves in a certain profession, to share their creativity with others, to make friends, and to enjoy the bright moments of life.
On the basis of the Territorial Center for Social Services to the Population, a day care unit for people with disabilities was established on December 1, 2009.
Over several years of work, we observe a positive result. Young people with disabilities, who were previously withdrawn and focused on their difficulties, have now become more active and communicative.
Among people with physical disabilities are poets, artists, musicians, and masters of decorative and applied arts, whose names are well known to art lovers not only in our district.
The festival of creativity of people with disabilities "Star of Hope", held annually at the district House of Culture, attracts many guests. An exhibition of works by people with disabilities is organized, and amateur poets, musicians, and singers delight the audience with their successful performances.
Close cooperation has been established with the central district library, where film lectures are often held, and interesting contests and quizzes are organized. Young people with disabilities gladly participate in Skype conferences. Through the internet, Lepel residents have formed friendships with residents of the city of Balakhna, Nizhny Novgorod region, who are members of the disability society. This provides young people with an excellent opportunity to talk about their daily lives, share interesting ideas, and make new friends.
The trip to the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve will be long remembered by the young people with disabilities. A bus was provided by the education department of the district executive committee. The young men and women found it very interesting to visit the nature museum and see the animals in the forest zoo.
Young people with disabilities spend their free time engagingly and improve their skills, successfully mastering various forms of art. This year, Lepel craftspeople presented their wonderful creations at the regional exhibition of creativity of people with disabilities "We are together with you," which took place at the Vitebsk Regional Methodological Center for Folk Art. Among the many original works, a prominent place was occupied by beautiful cross-stitched pictures by Elena Zharnosek, and a work by Olga Sokolovskaya, which combined several execution techniques. A magnificent beaded basket with flowers, a collective work by young craftspeople from the day care department for people with disabilities, impressed the audience.
The staff of the day care department for people with disabilities prepared another surprise for Mother's Day. Representatives of district organizations of the Public Association "Belarusian Association of the Disabled," "Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired," as well as participants of the "Optimist" club – women raising children with disabilities – were invited to the assembly hall of the Territorial Center. A sweet table was laid out for the guests. Valentina Kisel, the event host, created a warm atmosphere. Wonderful mood was gifted to everyone by the performances of the musical ensemble "Myatlitsa" under the direction of Darya Golubkova. The well-known folk and popular songs performed by the ensemble members left no one indifferent. These were representatives of the Lepel District Organization of the Public Association "Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired." Denis Ablavushka successfully performed songs accompanied by an accordion. Poems were read by Anna Zemko, Alla Veselova, and Dmitry Gavrushin. The guests of the celebration gladly participated in the game "Guess the Melody" and interesting contests.
In the hall, cheerful jokes and laughter did not cease, and upbeat song chords sounded… It is not easy to be a person with a disability, but people with physical limitations, despite all life's difficulties, do not lose optimism, rejoice in the bright moments of life, and become an example for those around them.
