Belarus to bring all laws in line with updated Constitution by year end

Plans are in place to bring all Belarusian laws in line with the updated Constitution by the end of the year, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with the academic staff and students of Gomel State Medical University on 16 October, BelTA has learned.

According to the speaker, Belarusians supported the proposed changes to the Constitution at the referendum in 2022. “We have worked out 92% of the laws. Plans are in place to bring all the laws in line with our new Constitution by the end of the year,” Natalya Kochanova said adding that there were currently about 2,500 laws in the country. Additions and amendments have been recently made to the Law on Healthcare. Such novelty as the Single Voting Day has been legislated. Laws on inadmissibility of glorification of Nazism and the genocide of the Belarusian people have been adopted for the first time.

“We have to live by the laws. Our task is to make the laws viable,” she emphasized.

Natalya Kochanova added that representatives of the Council of the Republic held meetings with the public on a regular basis. “We meet with labor force, visit educational institutions. It is important for us to see how the process of work and training is organized, what conditions are created, and to find out what issues should be addressed, what proposals the public suggest,” the speaker said.

The speaker of the Council of the Republic invited students and the academic staff to an open dialogue. The meeting touched upon such issues as support to student families, career opportunities and the international situation.
