Belarus to introduce visa waiver for fans coming for 2nd CIS Games

27.06.2023

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has upheld the proposal of the Sports and Tourism Ministry and other interested bodies to introduce a visa waiver for fans coming for the 2nd CIS Games, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Glaz told foreign journalists, BelTA has learned.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visa waiver was previously in place during the 2nd European Games 2019 and the Slavianski Bazaar festival. “Amidst the aggressive policy to disrupt communication between people, we, on the contrary, are trying to open up to neighboring states as much as possible, show them how we live, they are welcome here. Therefore, a visa waiver will be introduced for residents of neighboring states, for fans coming for the 2nd CIS Games,” Anatoly Glaz said.

“We are well aware that now sport is extremely politicized, it is fraught with the most vile political characteristics. We want and will make this event a celebration of true sports, where people will compete and contend in sports arenas. We will arrange a feast that will not be overshadowed by visa requirements and other restrictions. We are waiting for guests, as we are a hospitable nation,” the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Foreign journalists are on a press tour in Belarus on 25 June-1 July ahead of the 2nd CIS Games. Taking part in the press tour are 14 journalists from Russia, China, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan. On 26 June the delegation visited the Dinamo Stadium in Minsk. The sports facility will host the athletics tournament as part of the 2nd CIS Games.
