Seven scientists win Belarus' Academy of Sciences awards for young talents

The Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has approved a list of laureates of the annual contest 100 Young Talents of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for the year 2023, the NASB press service told BelTA.

The laureates are Head of the Electrohydraulic Control Systems Sector at the Academy's Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering Anton Ananchikov, Head of the Field Fodder Production Department at the Academy's Applied Research Center for Arable Farming Artyom Bogdanov, a research officer of the Photochemistry and Electrochemistry Lab at the Academy's General and Inorganic Chemistry Institute Ilya Glazov, a research officer of the Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds Lab at the Academy's Institute of Physical Organic Chemistry Irina Kolesnik, a research officer of the Microbiological Studies Lab of the National Food Quality and Safety Control and Test Complex of the Applied Research Center for Food Yekaterina Kulagova, Senior Research Officer of the Magnetic Materials Physics Lab of the Applied Research Center for Materials Science Grigory Rimsky, a research officer of the Immunology and Virology Lab at the Academy's Biophysics and Cell Engineering Institute Viktor Urban.

The annual contest 100 Young Talents of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was established in 2018. The total number of young scientists in the database cannot exceed 100 people. The annual number of laureates cannot exceed 20 people. Candidates of sciences can stay in the database until 35 years of age, doctors of sciences – until 45 years of age.

Candidates of sciences under 30 and doctors of sciences under 40, who work in organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, are allowed to enter the contest. Laureates are entered into the database of the contest and get the relevant certificate. They are also included into the executive talent pool of the Academy, get an annual grant to participate in an international scientific event, a scientific organizational event, or a scientific practical event (conferences, symposiums, scientific schools, short-term internships, etc.). The laureates also receive an annual prize of up to 7 base amounts as long as they are in the database.

The contest 100 Young Talents of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is supposed to attract and keep talented young people working in the field of science, R&D, and innovations. It is also supposed to help create youth scientific research groups and reduce the average age of scientific personnel in the Academy's organizations, ensure the continuity between scientists of different generations.
