Volfovich calls on Belarusians to value peace in their land as never before

23.06.2023

Today, more than ever, the Belarusians should value peace in their land and do everything possible to preserve it, State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich said at a commemorative meeting to mark the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian people in the Brest Hero Fortress memorial on 22 June, BelTA has learned.

Addressing the participants of the commemorative events, Aleksandr Volfovich noted that 22 June is one of the most tragic dates in the history of Belarus. It acquires a special meaning on the sacred land of the Brest Fortress, which was the first to take the brunt of the Nazi invasion. "On this day 82 years ago, a ruthless armada of fascists marched on our country, bringing death and slavery. Overnight, the hopes of millions of families were destroyed, the destinies of entire generations were broken. Every Belarusian family pays tribute and deep gratitude to everyone who did not live to see the glorious Victory Day, but believed in it, taking up an unequal battle with the Nazis," the state secretary of the Security Council stressed.

He noted that modern society, and young people above all, is becoming the target for attempts to revive the ideology of Nazism and to justify genocide. In the countries saved from fascism, monuments to Soviet soldiers are being demolished. This suggests that the war is not over. It broke out in a new guise and continues in other dimensions - media, cultural, moral. The ideological followers of those who stood on the other side of the front line are not abandoning attempts to rearrange the world for their own uses.

"Today, the most important component of the strategy for successful development is the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War, which we are obliged to protect from any distortion. The lessons of that war teach us unity and cohesion. Knowledge of history and respect for it form a sense of national pride, pride in the generation of winners. Today, more than ever, all of us should value peace on our land, do everything possible to preserve it. Only then we will be able to remain united and withstand any trials," Aleksandr Volfovich said.
