The Belarusian charity action Our Children will start on December 20 and will last till January 10, 2008, Vice-Premier Alexander Kosinets stated at a video-conference in the House of Government. The action will include various cultural, entertainment and charity events for children. Special attention will be paid to the children from children’s homes, Alexander Kosinets underlined. On the instructions of the government, sponsor partnerships have been established between educational establishments and companies. As a positive example the Vice-Premier cited the partnership between Belarusbank and the Dokshytsy children’s home. The Healthcare Ministry has been commissioned to organize medical screening of children, the Culture Ministry – to organize entertainment programmes, the Education Ministry and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security – to analyze the situation in the families and help solve the existing problems. “There are nearly 335 thousand single mothers in Belarus. Single mothers with low income will get financial assistance from the social security fund,” Alexander Kosinets added. Last year different Belarusian organizations provided support to children worth of over Br577.4 million. Apart from traditional presents the children got computers, toys, clothes, footwear, furniture and sports equipment. Partaking in the action were national governmental bodies, local executive committees, concerns, banks and public organizations. The participants of the action visited 127 children’s establishments including 54 orphanages for orphans, children left without parental custody and children with special needs, 20 children’s homes, four centers of correctional education and rehabilitation and seven children’s social asylums.
