Belarus ready to render assistance in setting up CSTO antiterrorist system

Belarus is ready to render assistance in setting up the antiterrorist system of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the deputy state secretary of the Belarusian Security Council, Yuri Krivosheev, said during a roundtable meeting on the cooperation of the CSTO member-states in the fight against terrorism and liquidation of natural disasters and emergency situations.

In June 2006, during the Minsk session of the CSTO Collective Security Council Belarus proposed to set up and develop a response system to natural disasters and man-caused emergencies in the framework of the organization, Yuri Krivosheev noted. To carry out the initiative, the CSTO antiterrorist exercises were held on a training ground near Borisov (Minsk oblast) on April 24. Attending the roundtable in Minsk are experts of the CSTO member-states, representatives of the State Secretariat of the Security Council, KGB and the Emergencies Ministry, the CIS Antiterrorist Center.

According to Yuri Krivosheev, these events aim to demonstrate the potential of Belarus in the fight against terrorism and liquidation of the consequences of emergency situations and to involve more fully the national potential in this field.

“We are ready to share the experience in training of specialists and render practical help to the CSTO member-states”, Yuri Krivosheev highlighted.

The agenda of the roundtable also includes a report on the prospects of training of specialists in liquidation of emergency situations of the CSTO member states in the institute of retraining and enhancing of qualifications of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus. An official of the Belarusian sports society “Dynamo” will give a report on the organization of special training of officers of antiterrorist units.
