It is high time European nations understood that the Great Victory is a common legacy. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during a solemn meeting on the occasion of Victory Day on 7 May, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked: “It is high time the nations of Europe understood that the Great Victory is our common legacy. Thanks to this victory and to the political, economic, and military might of the Soviet Union peace on the European continent was secured for many decades.”

He reminded that despite ideological differences and geopolitical strife after the war global players still managed to come to terms. “During the Cold War the opposing sides took real steps to defuse tensions on the basis of the balance of forces. International organizations acted as real platforms for negotiations and contributed to the preservation of peace and to reinforcing security on the planet. But lessons of the war were forgotten when the USSR collapsed,” the president stated.
