The first launch of a Euro-4-compliant automobile engine D-249 will take place at Minsk Engine Plant on November 9, BelTA learnt from OOO Business Relations Agency. The engine’s capacity stands at 190 horse powers, its volume — 4.75 litres. Minsk Engine Plant is the first post-Soviet maker of such engines. The new model was designed from scratch instead of modernising an existing engine. The product is meant for large-batch shipping to MAZ and other domestic and foreign mechanical engineering companies, including Russian GAZ and AMO ZIL. Top executives of Belarusian and Russian plants, German partners of Minsk Engine Plant are expected to partake in the presentation of the engine. Minsk Engine Plant (MMZ trademark) was founded in 1962. The company employs over 5,600 people now. The company offers three basic models of four and six-cylinder diesel engines in 44 modifications with the capacity ranging from 60 to 350 hp. Every month the company makes over 10 thousand engines. The company ships its make to 26 conveyors of Russian mechanical engineering companies, which manufacture various machines — automobiles, tractors, road construction machines, power generators. The company also uses manufacturing cooperation schemes with 87 Russian companies. The latter supply Minsk Engine Plant with fuel system parts, valve gear and other components for MMZ engines.
