Celebrations of 125th anniversary of Marc Chagall’s birth begin in Vitebsk

VITEBSK, 6 July (BelTA) – Expositions of Russian artists will open the program of celebrations dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Marc Chagall’s birth in Vitebsk on 6 July, BelTA learnt from the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History. The exposition of St. Petersburg artists features metal installations along with paintings and graphics of 10 young artists who tried to convey their feelings about Marc Chagall’s works in paintings. The exposition “Dedication to Marc Chagall” by the Moscow State Museum “Burganov's House” will be held at the Vitebsk Art Museum (a branch of the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History). This exhibition will also feature paintings, graphic arts and sculptures. Although the official date of birth is 6 July, Marc Chagall himself celebrated it on 7 July. So his hometown organizes a lot of important and interesting events dedicated to the master during these days. Meetings “Visiting Marc and Bella" on Pokrovskaya Street near the House-Museum of the artist have become very popular with the locals and guests of the city. A ceremony of cancelation of the stamps dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Marc Chagall will be held in Pokrovskaya Street as well. The stamp features a portrait of Marc Chagall by his teacher Yehuda Pen and has an inscription in four languages: Belarusian, English, French and Yiddish. On 8 July Vitebsk will host the premiere of the documentary "Marc Chagall. Unreal Reality” made by Belvideocenter. The Classic Avant-Garde group directed by Vladimir Baidov will present a musical-theatrical production “Dreams above Vitebsk”. The Israeli cultural center at the Embassy of the State of Israel in the Republic of Belarus will present the exhibition "Chagall's footsteps in Israel" at the Yakub Kolas national academic drama theater. The exhibition opening ceremony will be followed by the performance "Flights with an Angel” directed by Professor Valery Anisimov, the merited worker of arts, winner of the state award and the prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus “For Spiritual Revival”.
