Frankfurt an der Oder City Hall preparing for Slavonic Bazaar Festival in Vitebsk

VITEBSK, 5 May (BelTA) – The City Hall of Frankfurt an der Oder, Vitebsk’s twin city, is preparing for the 10th Slavonic Bazaar Festival in Vitebsk, BelTA learned from the Vitebsk City Executive Committee. The city hall has announced a contest among the Vitebsk students for the best translation of the poem composed by famous German poet and prosaist Heinrich von Kleist. According to the preliminary agreement, in 2011, the Days of German Culture is expected to be held within the framework of the Vitebsk international festival for the first time. It is remarkable that Europe has announced the year of 2011 as the year of Heinrich von Kleist, who was born in Frankfurt an der Oder. So, the Frankfurt City Hall has decided to draw attention to their famous countryman, promote the culture cooperation between Vitebsk and Frankfurt an der Oder. The students who learn German are invited to take part in the contest. In line with the contest rule, they will translate Heinrich von Kleist’s poem, An die Konigin Luise von Preussen, into Russian. The winner of the contest will be able to have a good time at the youth camp Eurocamp in Frankfurt an der Oder. In July this year, within the framework of the 10th Slavonic Bazaar Festival in Vitebsk, the Vitebsk Center of Modern Arts and the Vitebsk Oblast Library will hold exhibitions dedicated to great German poet Heinrich von Kleist.
